the jellyfish is back! At last, the 1st set of 8 days (not the magazine) has been over!
Shall post generally about life inside...
- Day Shift
Taken by Eugene (most kilat medic) and Encik Jamil. Learnt the most things through Eugene, and he really did his job well even though he going to ORD. Patient la, although I made a lot of mistakes to anger him. Encik Jamil is nice also, giving advices on how to be a better medic. ^^
Day shift is somehow less tiring than night shift, probably because it is the day and thus I am more adjusted to it. Haha. Cases are generally about the same, asthma, stroke, unconscious baby...
First time I went to KK - children hospital, and woah really a lot of kids sia! A nice and clean place, but I got a feeling I wont go there often...
- Night Shift
Taken by Xavier (another excellent medic) and Encik Rahul. Nothing much ba, somehow I find Xavier's way of doing things to be easier, dunno why also. My 1st case was also during the night, where there is an unconscious 16-yr old girl. Nothing much. Xavier I think also somehow lost his patience thanks to me... Haix...
Night shift ok la, but at about 5 or 6am, got temptation to sleep. A lot of weird cases at night though, like alcohol intoxication and walking injured casualty. o.O
No preferences over the shifts, but I think the 2 offs after the 2 days are the best~! ^^
Hope the next few blocks / shifts / sets are better...
Total no. of cases went: 21. Off-run now, roger out. ^^
4:53 PM
the jellyfish is back! 1st day of Yishun Station has ended, and tomorrow is my off!
Got lost on the way to Yishun Station, thanks to the bus interchange officer who anyhow gave directions. Thankfully I followed an Yishun Station Clerk to the way to the station. He really guided me along. Haha. Now I understand why Sir Greg say even clerks can contribute to a lot! ^^
Nothing much about the 1st day, since it was mostly admin work. Morning met up with the 3rd division ppl and proceeded to collect our uniforms, CA suits and filled in some random forms. The Encik who briefed us about our future was quite ok, probably he tried to make us feel that our lives in station would be interesting and meaningful. ^^
Afternoon, only Yishun ppl stayed, and so we slacked in the admin office from 2pm all the way till 6pm. Apparently Yishun ppl love to take breaks, since I had about 4 breaks today? =D
I realised the medic and admin side ppl are really friendly, they try to help the newcomers in many different ways and how to survive in Yishun station, especially when dealing with higher ranking people. Some were seriously too friendly or helpful until I didn't guess their ranks correctly.
(3rd major misconception)
While me and Yasir finished filling up the interview form. This random guy asked us for a favour to help his friend out in transferring things from an ambulance to the other. He really asked with a question mark instead of most ppl giving a full stop statement which leaves us no choice to decide whether we want to help out or not. We agreed to his request though. So I looked at his rank...
He is a Sergeant... o.o
(2nd major misconception)
Since I reported rather early today, the provost department also like sort of confused on where should I go. So this random Encik came to help everybody out, and tried to ask people on where should I go and at wad time. When nobody knew, he guided me to the watch room and asked whether I was ok with a wet attire since I was caught in the rank. He also asked me to take care of myself inside and don't catch a cold.
A random guy in the watch room asked me this question.
"What did the RSM tell you just now?" O_O
(Major misconception)
After the afternoon canteen break, I realised my comics I drawn while I was in MOC were missing, and realised this random guy in vest and slack looking and asked whether I was the one who drawn it. He said it was nice, although he didn't understand some random medic terms. Haha.
He then requested something through the phone with an officer, and sounded quite informal but courteous. I was laughing all the way through his conversation. He then took some photos, looked at it and cut some into heart shapes. Apparently he was pleased with his cutting, and proceeded to show the office ppl, me and Yasir and asked for comments. It looked a bit ugly, but I said it was ok.
After a while, he left the office to do some things. The friendly office Lance Corporal asked us to look at the organisation chart of Yishun Station. Quite nice, I identified the LCP somehow, and I asked which picture was the random guy who was cutting hearts.
(Points to a Rota Commander picture) The guy you saw just now is this Lieutanant. A very friendly guy.
Wow, a 2 diamond guy talking to privates so closely sia! First time I experience this in SCDF. Generally a diamond guy and a private would have a gap, but this guy can really make everyone feel at home! ^^ After he came back, he brought us down to do some chin-up in a form of a competition. A bit random though. He somehow love to promote the ppl around him to participate in physical activities, a healthy habit indeed.
A pity he isn't my rota commander, if not it would be great! 1st day over!
9:15 PM
The jellyfish is back! Posting about how I spent the saturday night after POC... ^^
===================================
Before I went for the random bunk outing, I headed off to MOC outing at Changi Beach first, just to look around.
Sat (16/4)
1400 - Set off to Changi Beach
1630 - Reached Changi Beach -.- I was damn late as the BBQ actually started at 1600 hrs. Rented a bike to cycle and find Sgt Budd and the rest, which I didn't find until about 5.30pm. It was at a random corner that was nt on the main road. Didn't cycle for a long time, so therefore it was great to cycle again! ^^
Not many ppl were there when i reached, only Sgt Budd and his organising committee were there. Cpl Hazique and Sgt Izuan came after me and expected some food to be ready already. Too much.
1800 - JM called my phone and asked how come I was not at vivocity. Apparently I thought we were going to meet at 8pm, somehow I was wrong and I was supposed to reach at 1800 hours. O_O So therefore late... Really rushed all the way from Changi to Harbourfront, thankfully didn't miss the train and bus.
1900 - Finally I reached! Marcus, JM, Aaron, Willis, XW and Noel were there waiting already. Sorry guys! So walked around Vivocity and somehow the food outlets there were either too crowded or not to our liking.
2000 - We went to a steamboat restaurant near Bugis in the end. The food is sort of ok, considering I ate much more non-meat items compared to meat items. Spammed a lot of mushrooms, sausages... The bread with melted butter and custard was great! Talked about recruit life and the funny things that happened, and hear about Marcus talking about his instructor life. Pretty boring for the instructor part.
Another table around us was occupied by teenagers, and their voice volume was really damn high. In the end we tried to be louder than them, a bit of effort... A pity WB wasn't there, if not he would own the whole room. Lol! ^^
2230 - Sent Aaron and Willis off as they had curfew. XW also disappeared w/o a trace. We went for a walk to Scape~ Walked around the building, went to the rooftop to look at the stars, looked at the entertainment which was a bit boring. We also bought movie tickets for a midnight movie! =D
Sun (17/4)
0015 - Went to a Starbucks outlet to have midnight snack. I didn't order anything as I was not hungry. The others ordered random coffee and cheesecake. Slept for 1 hour so that there will be mental energy to watch the movie later.
0115 - Left Starbucks for Cathay, and watched Bangkok knock-out. A pretty interesting fighting show which kept me awake for quite some time. The starting of the movie was on medic scenes which I gave a -.- expression. The movie is really about trusting the people around you, endurance and strength. If you are a person who like fighting movies, go watch this. Is nice! ^^
A person like me also quite like the movie, let alone all those who love fighting movies.
0345 - Left Cathay and walked around Dhoby Gauht to find a soya-bean shop? o.o (It was not found btw) Then walked to another random starbucks shop to have breakfast. Ordered the apple fritter which was very sweet... JM ordered a cinnamon roll which had not much taste. Marcus ordered a random chocolate muffin. Overall an 'ok-la' breakfast. We then slept until about 5.15am. ^^
0515 - The 1st train was still not in operation. So we waited in the street until 6am, before dialing a cab home. Never really appreciated a night time scene in town, and wow, it can be considered still quite active at a ulu time in the morning. ^^
0600 - Me and JM took a cab to woodlands, and reached home at around 0630 hrs. April's outing officially over! It was a fun night though, since I do not really spend my nights outside. Wahaha! ^^
===============================
Hope future outings can still be this fun!
8:16 PM
the jellyfish is back! Finally POC already! =D
So after all the random trainings, tests, the 5 weeks are finally over! ^^
Should be passed everything, with the exception of unknown final theory test results. Kena posted to Yishun Fire Station (3rd division HQ) for the rest of the 20 months of NS life.
Somehow many things have changed throughout these 5 weeks...
1. People whom I know do not speak vulgarities sent 1 sms of vulgarities to me... o.o
2. Having a girlfriend / having sex is no longer a 'woah so early!?' kind of issue.
3. If i forget the medical procedure, is no longer losing marks but losing lives.
Got some ppl who went through MOC with me most of the time~ ^^
- Imran aka Boy Kilat (kena posted to instructor)
One of the most kilat ppl I know who is not shiny. The person who I thought was an instructor during my 1st day as he really looked like one. A pro in first aid, since he knew a lot of bandages during the STI lesson while I was lost like nobody's business. A really good drawer of houses though... =P A person who like really answer a lot of crappy questions I ask. 118th MOC best trainee, KILAT!
- Faisal! (kena Alexandra)
A mini mama-shop, always full of golden oreos and bread, thus section 7 never goes hungry. ^^ Medical standard same same la, not so pro. A nice person to talk to, especially while talking about recruit life! Wahaha! ^^
- Samuel! (kena HQ)
A person who never fails to ask a lot of questions. But definitely a polite person, and helps out when needed. ^^
Ok, that's all for this random short post. I seriously wonder how life in Yishun FS is like. Haha! ^^
10:11 PM
the jellyfish is back! MOC 3rd week has passed quite peacefully? Well, if you minus out the excessive punishments, the delaying of time for no reason, and all the stupid reasons for doing things...
Post contents
1. Random things about MOC
2. Outing with D-MOC ppl.
3. Other random rubbish

1. Random things about MOC
Recent tests:
- IV [Failed, veins cannot be found]
- Theory test [Pass! Surprisingly]
- Stretcher test [Pass]
I became IC on wed, which was damn rabak, and probably the suay-est IC for these 3 weeks. I even saw a Major and dun know whether that person is a male or female. Guessed wrongly for the person's gender... At least I do not have to be the IC anymore!
IV was nothing much, since me and Samuel veins are problematic. According to our instructor, mine likes to hide, Samuel's veins like to run. Wth does that mean lol?
Theory test i passed! 40% pass rate only though. Stretcher test I teamed with Imran, Samuel and Sahyd. Overall we made a good team, and passed quite well. Sgt Budden was evil with the sitting position, and also chose heavy ppl to be casualties. The stretcher test was fun! ^^
We got tricked during April Fool, thinking that there would be a re-test. I was glad that there was no re-test though!
